Men on a mission began when one man led by god, wanted to make a difference in
the lives of impoverished children.
I first went to Ethiopia in 2003 with my wife, Audrey. We had no idea what to
expect and were shock by the horrific conditions we saw. On our return that year
we pledged to make a difference. The first project we got involved in was a
housing project in the slums of Addis Ababa. We raised funds to build new houses
which would accommodate widows and street children. The second year we visited
an area about 6 hours outside the capital called Langano. This is an area
affected by famine and has a very high mortality rate. We took on a project to
build a purpose built house to care for babies who are orphaned at birth or
malnourished. A Year later the funds had been raised and the “House of Hope” was
completed. To fully supply the ‘House of Hope’ however I realised we would need
help.
I turned to my church where a meeting was arranged for all men who would be
interested in helping. Initially around 20 men answered my call and ‘Men on a
Mission’ was born. The first mission was to supply the House of Hope with 50,000
liquid paracetamol sachets and 2,000 items of baby clothes and blankets. This
mission was achieved over Easter 2008 when 6 men filled 12 suitcases and
travelled directly by air and people carrier…………
That is where we came from and what we aim to do. How that is realised however
is not in our hands, but we have faith……..
